Clifford A. Taylor's Obituary
Clifford A. Taylor was born February 28, 1928 in the village of Spring Lake, Michigan. His parents were Clifford A. and Grace M. (Petertyl) Taylor. He is survived by his brothers, Robert L. (Dian) Taylor of Holland, Michigan and Capt. P. Richard (Karen) Taylor USCG (Ret.) of Port Orchard, Washington, and a number of nieces, nephews, and close cousins. Cliff divided his residency between Spring lake, where he was a member of the Spring Lake County Club, and Tequesta, Florida, where he was a member of the Turtle Creek Club, Inc.
Cliff attended public school in Spring Lake and Grand Haven, Michigan and graduated from St. Johns Military Academy, Delafield, Wisconsin in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1947 in its pilot training program which included attendance at Emory and Henry College, in Emory, Virginia and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia. He graduated from Michigan State University (Cum Laude) in 1950 and was also a three-year member of their golf team.
He was a C.P.A. engaged in the practice of public accounting in Muskegon, Michigan for forty years and was a retired partner of BDO Seidman, LLP. Cliff was a former board member and past president of the great Muskegon Industrial Fund, a former member of the Muskegon Rotary Club, and a former board member and president of Spring Lake County Club. He was also a lifetime member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts.
A lifelong avid golfer, he won 13 Muskegon Area District Golf Championships and other Western Michigan Golf Tournaments, 24 Club Championships, played in seven U.S.G.A. Championships, and seven British Senior Amateur Championships. He was the first amateur golfer inducted into the Greater Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame. He also won several Great Lakes Senior Golf Association Championships and Michigan Seniors Golf Association Championships. He was a former governor (now honorary) of the Golf Association of Michigan. He was also a former governor (now Emeritus) of the Society of Seniors, a national seniors golf association.
Cliff was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, F. Hope (Moxon) Taylor in 2016.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 26, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Spring Lake County Club, Spring Lake, MI.
