Clifford R. Norton, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Clifford R. Norton, Jr., age 83, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 16, 2010. He was born September 30, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN to Clifford R. and Dorothy (Knowles) Norton, Sr. Mr. Norton was a graduate of Coe College in Sioux City, Iowa and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp serving his country during WWII. After WWII he attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Norton worked many years as a Civil Engineer and retired as the County Assessor in Greencastle, IN after serving four years. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, belonged to the Moose, Elks, and the American Legion in Greencastle, IN. He also enjoyed his many Coe College University reunions held in Iowa. Mr. Norton married Mary Jo Towey and she preceded him in death. On December 15, 2002 he married Carol L. Cooper-Leonard in Muskegon and she survives him along with his son, Thomas (Gay) Norton and their daughter, Alexis of Surprise, AZ; step-children, Billy (Sally) Leonard, Jr., Alan (Connie) Leonard, Jeffery Leonard, Deb (David) Martin; many step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 3:00 PM Thursday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 with Rev. Rick Ferris officiating. Burial will take place in Forest Hills Cemetery in Greencastle, IN. VISITATION will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday with the Rosary prayed at 6:00 PM.
