Colleen "Connie" Weigel's Obituary
Colleen “Connie” M. Weigel, age 83, of Grand Haven went to be with her Lord on Monday, September 21, 2009, at Heartwood Lodge. She was born August 13, 1926, in Muskegon to Gaylord and Lois (Hubbell) McCue, and she married Albert Weigel on January 26, 1944, in Grand Haven.
Connie was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven. She has been a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church since 1947 where she was a past president and member of the Ladies Aid Society. She was also a Sunday School teacher for many years and a Cub Scout Den Mother for St. John’s Lutheran School. Connie was also a member of both the American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries. She previously worked at Braak’s Bakery and the Wash King Laundromat. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and was an avid Detroit baseball and basketball fan.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Albert; her daughter, Brenda Weigel of Grand Haven; three sons: Gary (Debbie) Weigel of Grand Haven, David (Gina) Weigel of Holland, and Randy (Lorri) Weigel of Muskegon; ten grandchildren: Brandon Weigel, Mike (Anne) Hansen, Laura Spencer, Alesha and Chelsey Weigel, Alex and Julie Keeney, and Rachael, Lindsey, and Jacob Weigel; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Jean Polinsky of Grand Haven and Joan (Robert) Gardner of Spring Lake; two brothers, Robert (Bev) Avery of Grand Haven and Paul Avery of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Pete Avery.
The service for Connie will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Dieter Haupt presiding. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 24, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lakeshore Cemetery. Memorial contributions to St. John’s Lutheran Church or School or to Heartwood Lodge of Hospice of North Ottawa Community are appreciated.
