Corinne L. Berglund's Obituary
Mrs. Corinne (Corky) L. Berglund, age 78, passed away unexpectedly Monday, April 6, 2020 with her daughter Joni by her side. She and her twin sister were born in Muskegon on August 20, 1941 to Carl and Elaine (Brown) Nelson and graduated from Muskegon High School, class of 1959. Corky was employed by Hackley Hospital in administration and medical records prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Muskegon Vikings #57. On December 3, 1960, Corky married Thomas S. Berglund and he preceded her in death on July 14, 2014. She was a proud redhead. She loved her trips to the casino and would shout out, “There it is!” when she saw the Little River sign. She loved chicken wings and was famous for her garlic dip. She made Christmas magical and birthdays special. She was known by many as the grandma who loved sports; Roger Federer being her favorite. She loved her two “sons” Sebastian and Quinn (Lakeside the cat). She had more Corkyisms that made us laugh like only she could. Mary Ann says she was always introduced as “my baby sister”. Chris says: We were kindred spirits meant to journey through life together with a multitude of memories of laughter and much love. These are treasures I’ll keep always. I hold you in my heart forever. You will always be my shining star. She is survived by her loving daughter, Joni Albert; grandchildren, Amanda (Twayne) Harlow, Jamal Rarick, Joshua Albert, Kyle Follett, Thomas (Krissy) Vreden, and Travis (Sara) Follett; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Laurana, Madison, Olivia, Simon, Steven, Talia, Tayden, and Tiana; twin-sister, Christine Bergklint and baby sister, Mary Ann (Mark) Lillmars. She had many nieces and nephews and loved them dearly. A special thank you to her physician, Dr. O. Thomas and her staff and the staff at Mercy Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Thanks to Shirley Brooks, who came to the house for the needed cut and style. Thanks to Vickie Bowmen for her caring spirit. To the countless family and friends that sent well wishes over the past couple years: You will never be forgotten. Due to the current restrictions concerning COVID-19 and social distancing, a MEMORIAL SERVICE for Corinne will be announced at a later date. You may sign her online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com Arrangements by The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI 49441.
