Cornelia Ann "Corky" Batts' Obituary
Cornelia Ann “Corky” Batts, age 92, of Spring Lake passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Robbinswood Assisted Living Community. She was born November 13, 1930, in Spring Lake, MI to Albert and Jeanette (Hoebeke) Zuidema. She married Alden Owen Batts on July 10, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana. He preceded her in death on July 16, 2004.
Corky worked for Spring Lake High School as a secretary, retiring in 1993. She was a longtime member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. Corky loved to knit, baking, walking, and most of all spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed attending all the sporting events her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Kathy (William) Cleveland, Barbara (Steve) Skendrovic, David Batts and Robert Batts; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Caroline (Robert) Van Schelven; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Boes, two brothers, Howard and John Zuidema, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Cleveland.
The funeral for Corky will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the funeral at church. Memorials to Spring Lake Presbyterian Church or Hospice of North Ottawa Community are appreciated.
