Cornelia Bishop's Obituary
Mrs. Cornelia Bishop, age 95, passed away Tuesday morning, March 21, 2006, in Muskegon. She was born on March 13, 1911 to Cornelius and Cornelia (Powers) Bouwense in Grand Rapids and has lived in Muskegon Heights for the past 73 years. Mrs. Bishop was a charter member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and had served as President of its Friendship Circle. She also did volunteer work for Muskegon Christian School for 25 years; and had worked for the Cradle Shop for 28 years, prior to her retirement at the age of 86. On September 13, 1932 she married William Bishop and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1989. SURVIVORS include her daughter, Marilyn Tjapkes of Spring Lake; her son, Wayne (Joan) Bishop of Muskegon; Six Grandchildren, Sheryl (Mark) Riekels, Daniel Tjapkes, Cynthia (Michael) Henley, Jack (Betsy) Tjapkes, Randall (Pam) Bishop and Linda (Steve) Schuring; 16 Great-Grandchildren; 2 brothers, Anthony (Eleanor) Bouwense and Raymond (Lois) Bouwense; 1 sister, Sarah Bredeweg. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, David Tjapkes, on Dec. 4, 2002, her sister Lorraine Groenendyk and by 2 brothers-in-law, Raymond Bredeweg and William Groenendyk. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church (937 W. Norton) with Pastor Ron Nyenhuis officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM today (Wednesday) at The Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to Muskegon Christian School Foundation, Western Michigan Christian High School Foundation or the “Onward by Faith” Building fund of Calvin CRC would be appreciated. Burial will take place at Mona View Cemetery.
