Cornelia "Connie" VanGelderen's Obituary
Mrs. Cornelia “Connie” VanGelderen, age 95, of Grand Haven passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017. She was born October 3, 1922 in Zeeland to Robert and Agnes (Riemersma) Beukema. On January 17, 1941 she married Donald VanGelderen, son of Gerrit and Magdalene (Nienhuis) VanGelderen.
Connie was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven, where she was also a member of Women’s Circle. She was an avid card player, golfer and hospital auxiliary volunteer. She was also a member of the MSU extension club. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and Fricano’s pizza.
Connie is survived by two daughters-in-laws, Jeanne VanGelderen, and Marie VanGelderen; seven grandchildren: Denise, Laura, Victoria, Gerry Jr., Melissa, Joseph, and Rebecca; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 1993; her son, Gerry in 1979 and followed in death by her son Jack on January 3, 2018.
A joint memorial service with her son, Jack will be held Wednesday, January 10, 11:00 at First Presbyterian Church, Grand Haven with Rev. Jill VanderWal officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 prior to the service with a luncheon following. Memorial contributions in memory of Connie may be given to Love in Action.
