Cornelius "Casey" G. Smith's Obituary
Cornelius “Casey” Gerrit Smith, age 87, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018. He was born on April 25, 1931 to Fred and Grace (Wieringa) Smith in Muskegon. Casey worked as a tool designer for Continental Motors and then as a sales manager at HEMCO in Holland, MI until he started KC Design Services in 1965. Casey worked at KC Design Services for many years until his wife’s health started to decline. He was an avid fan of Ham Radio; and was a member of the Muskegon Area Amateur Radio Council with the call sign W8FDE. He loved reading, listening to news radio, playing with his beloved cat, Kammy, and spending time with his family. He would seldom watch television, but when he did it was Friday night boxing matches with his dad or watching Larry Bird and his favorite NBA team the Boston Celtics play. On October 13, 1950 Casey married the former Joan Bomers and they spent 65 happy years together until her passing in May of 2016. Casey is survived by his children, Terri (Dennis) Andersen, Rick Smith, Steven (Mary) Smith, Stacy Smith; grandchildren, James (Mindy) Polak, Nick (Emily) Andersen; great-grandchildren Kaila and Caden Polak, Declan, June, Peter, Paul and Blaise Andersen; nephew, Phillip (Kathy) Prior; step-grandchildren, Travis and Trisha Witte, Trever (Melissa) Andersen. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joan; sisters, Anna VonBusch, Frances Prior; nephew, Dirk Prior; niece, Kathy Prior. A VISITATION with Casey’s family will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 6-8 PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
