Craig Thomas Meyer's Obituary
Friday, the 6th of November, 2020, Craig Thomas Meyer passed away, after a courageous six year battle with cancer. Born Saturday, June 11, 1955 at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan to Vernon W. Meyer RPH and Barbara J. (Haan) Meyer RN. Craig was his mother’s “sunshine” boy, because he was always happy and made her smile. He gained the nickname, “Corky” when very young, because his mother said he was “such a Corkster!” Craig worked for the Muskegon Chronicle as a paper boy in Lakeside and hired his “peas and carrots” lifelong friend, “Guppie” Keiren (Caughey) Borgeson to help him deliver newspapers. Craig played on a junior hockey league, ice-skated, went skiing frequently with his family, took sailing lessons, and later charted his dad’s sailboats. He played the drums at Bunker School, and in the Muskegon and Mona Shores bands and orchestras. He travelled to Europe and played for various dignitaries. He received Ostomy training while working at his dad’s pharmacies. He graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1973 and received two degrees from MCC. His favorite class was Astronomy. He worked at Andrie Inc. and Detroit Edison, then went to Colorado to work for 20th century Fox Breckenridge ski resort and loved the beauty of America’s West. He loved skiing, sailing, reading, boating, Lake Michigan, his Harley and visiting his TRC friends in Florida, and was a talented woodworker and skilled craftsman. He loved to RV travel the most and had many more plans and places to see. He worked for Consumers Energy for 32 years, retiring at age 57 in 2012. Craig was a nuclear grade welder at nuclear plants throughout Michigan. He was plant operator at BC Cobb and Port Sheldon, and Overisel, Michigan. He read meters, had tree trimming school, was a lineman, was certified in HVAC, and retired as plant electrician at Port Sheldon, Unit 3. He was very studious and received high marks in his courses. He was a proud Gold Card member at Muskegon Recreation Club, member of Muskegon Eagles, and former member of Mona Lake Boat Club. He had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and a wealth of knowledge that helped him win Jeopardy questions. He acquired several friends throughout the years and made sure he obtained new friends anywhere he travelled. He absolutely loved life. He married the love of his life, Denise (Aley) on Wednesday, December 30, 1981 at Central Methodist Church, Muskegon, Michigan. He loved dressing up and attending McGraft Church and had many friends there. Craig had a strong faith in Christianity, always wearing his cross necklace, and praying faithfully daily. He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Denice, and children; son Branden (Niki) Hamlett, daughter Crystal (Michael) Soto, daughter Amanda (Michael) Erpenbeck, and son Mitchell (Jessica Buday) Meyer.
