Cristobal L. Nunez's Obituary
Following a long history of heart problems, Cristobal L. Nunez peacefully passed away at home on October 23, 2020. Cristobal was 83 years old. He is survived by his three sons, Mark, Michael, and Antonio, as well as his lovely daughter-in-law, Lindsay, and his precious grandchildren, D'Anthony, Carina, Sophia, Cohen, Christopher, and Xavier. Christopher also remains adored by his nieces, Annette, Neda, Sandy, and Lynn as well as by his nephews, Israel Jr., Larry, and Michael. He is also survived by family and loving in-laws throughout Florida, Puerto Rico, Connecticut, and Michigan. Cristobal lived a long and happy life filled with laughter, love, and his precious family. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Brenda Nunez. Cristobal's devotion to Brenda in life was limitless and later following her death in 2014, his connection to her memory remained sacred. Cristobal (aka Christopher) was born on July 24, 1937 to Rosa Nunez Soto and Antonio Lopez Justiniano of Utuado, Puerto Rico. Tragically at the age of five, in 1942, Christopher lost his baby brother, Eldido, his infant sister, Milades, and his beloved mother, Rosa, all within six months of each other. Unable to remain in the care of his father and older brother, Freddie, Christopher went to live with his extended family. He soon became a beloved brother to Luis, Israel, Sue, Minerva, Edwin, Nivia, Marlene, Kena and Deano and a grandson to Maria (Chita) Perez. These family relationships remained steadfast and important throughout his life. He first came to Michigan with family in the early 1950's. His adventurous nature led him as a young man to live and work in Florida, Philadelphia, Chicago and finally, Michigan. Christopher also returned to Puerto Rico later in life with his two brothers, Luis and Israel. Word has it, the three musketeers made a very lasting impression on the island. Christopher learned the value of self-reliance and hard work as a very small child. He has worked very hard all his life to provide his wife and sons with a financial security he was not afforded as a child. In 1971, Christopher chose to marry and start a family. Fatherhood came natural to him and his loyalty to his family was immense. His sense of humor was unrestrained, and his laugh filled the room. Christopher's love for his boys and his commitment to all his extended family as our family's patriarch will always remain a cherished family legacy. Due the COVID 19 restrictions, a small private family church service will be conducted by Pastor Aaron A. Gregory on Wednesday October 28, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harbor Hospice Foundation. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Please feel free to visit the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
