Cynthia N. Buening's Obituary
Cynthia N. Buening, age 71, of Wheaton, IL passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Grand Pines Assisted Living Center in Grand Haven, MI. She was born May 28, 1946, in Kalamazoo, MI to William and Mary (Fishel) Cummings, and she married Edward H. Buening, Jr. on December 28, 1968, in South Bend, IN.
Cynthia received her Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University. While at Purdue, she was named Outstanding Bandswoman for 1967 and 1968. She was a member of the Tau Beta Sigma Music Honor Society. She enjoyed work as a musician, librarian, and travel agent. Cyndy was an active member of Southminster Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and volunteered as the church librarian. She sang and played the flute with C.A.B & Co., and Mello-Aires in Glen Ellyn and Wheaton, IL. Cyndy was also a member of the CSLA – Christian Library Association. Her other interests were gardening, traveling, and, most of all, her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Edward H. Buening, Jr., daughter, Becky (Mike) Yonan; son, Michael (Armanda) Buening; four grandchildren: Carissa Yonan, Laura Yonan, Tom Yonan, and Maya Buening; two brothers, William and Jeff Cummings; nieces, Heatherlyn Cummings and Erin Tabarisl; and nephew, Sam Cummings. She was preceded in death by her parents, two nieces, Janel and Audrey Cummings; and two nephews, Shawn and Ian Cummings.
A memorial service for Cynthia will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 640 South Park Blvd., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 with Rev. Wendy Boden-Nelson officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Morton Arboretum Children’s Programming (www.mortonarb.org/tribute).
