Dale John Bonnema's Obituary
Dale John Bonnema, age 74, of Spring Lake passed away Sunday, June 16, 2019, at American House in Spring Lake. He was born March 11, 1945, in Kalamazoo, MI to Nick John and Alice (VanderLugt) Bonnema, and married Katherine Ann “Kay” Appleby on August 19, 1967, whom he met at Wheaton College, at First Methodist Church in Long Beach, Mississippi.
Dale received his Master’s degree from Western Michigan University. He taught science, biology, anatomy, chemistry, and physics, at Spring Lake High School and computers at Spring Lake Elementary. He previously taught in Illinois. He loved hiking, traveling, reading, and most of all spending time with his family.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Katherine “Kay” Bonnema of Spring Lake; two sons, Douglass (Cassie) Bonnema of Bradford, New Hampshire, and Scott (Cathy) Bonnema of Eagle, Idaho; three grandchildren: Courtney, Maddie, and Grace Bonnema; and his sister, Mary Jo (Don) VanderKooy of Kalamazoo, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
According to Dale’s wishes no services will be held. Memorial contributions to Hospice of North Ottawa Community or the Michael J. Fox Foundation are appreciated.
