Dan A. Fox MD's Obituary
Dan A. Fox, M.D. passed into eternal life Monday, September 7. He was born April 29, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1959, he graduated from East Grand Rapids High School. He then attended the University of Michigan for both undergraduate and medical school. He was awarded his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1966. After graduating from medical school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at the Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico. Dr. Fox was a Captain and served as General Medical Officer. Following his service in the Air Force, he completed his residency program in otolaryngology at the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1974. After completing his residency, he moved with his family to Spring Lake and began his ENT practice in Muskegon where he dedicated his career for the next 40 years.
In 1970, Dan married Mary Louise Henricson. They celebrated their 45 wonderful years of marriage on August 8th. He is also survived by his children, David (Alexandra) Fox, Dr. Steven (Dr. Alison) Fox and his grandchildren: Noah, Drew and Wilhelmina, all of Spring Lake; his sister, Joyce (Dr. Joseph) DeCook; sister-in-law, Ruth Murphy and loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Marguerite; parents-in-law, Les and Ruth Henricson; sister-in-law, Barbara Grasman; and brother-in-law, Max Murphy.
Anyone who knew "Dr. Dan" could share countless stories of his unwavering kindness. He was known throughout the community for always going above and beyond in the care of his patients. He was an avid sports fan who took every opportunity to cheer on the Michigan Wolverines and the Detroit Tigers. He loved the game of golf that he enjoyed with many close friends while a member at the Spring Lake Country Club. Sailing and camaraderie at the Spring Lake Yacht Club filled countless summer weekends for Dan and his family. Despite travels reaching as far as Tahiti, Europe and South America, Dan always said his two favorite places on earth were Spring Lake, Michigan and Fort Myers Beach, Florida. Nothing thrilled him more than having his two sons return to Spring Lake to raise their families. He loved every chance to cheer on his grandsons Noah and Drew at countless sporting events and always referred to them as his buddies. In the final days of his life, you could see a sparkle in his eyes every time he had the chance to share the joy of his newborn granddaughter Wilhelmina. Dr. Fox will leave a lasting impression of his kind, caring heart and optimism on his family and countless friends and patients. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 12, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday, September 11, 2015 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven.
