Daniel Jacob Akins' Obituary
Daniel J. “Dan” Akins, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in Muskegon, MI. He was born March 25, 1954, in Muskegon, MI to Virgil and Lorene (Perkins) Akins and lived in the Muskegon area all of his life. On August 28, 1976, Dan married the love of his life Vicky Morrell and they spent 48 years creating memories together. After graduating from Orchard View in 1972, Dan worked at Sealed Power until it closed. Then he became a Production Coordinator at Weyburn & Bartel before it became ASIMCO, where he retired in 2007. Dan and his wife enjoyed going to antique car shows, where they would enter their old Chevy truck. Along with the love for his truck, he was a handyman that enjoyed working on engines, whether it be for a car, motorcycle, or lawnmower, he would fix it. He also enjoyed fishing on his boat that he had just finished restoring. He loved taking his grandsons fishing. Dan will be remembered for being a loving and caring father to his children and grandsons. Dan loved his dog’s very much, and they spent most of their time with him, either cuddling or nearby the garage while he worked. Survivors include his wife Vicky Akins; 2 sons Jeffery Akins and Matthew (former daughter in-law Carly) Akins and 3 grandchildren Carter Akins, Eli Akins and Henry Akins; 1 brother, Arthur (Dorothy) Akins; 2 brothers-in law, Samuel Morrell and Theodore (Kelly) Morrell; 1 sister-in-law Betty Seitz; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Al Stromberg, Derrick “Rick” Hicks and Dennis Fauble; and his 3 dogs, Snickers, Murphy, and Darcy. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosemary Thompson, brother-in-law George Thompson, mother-in-law Eleanor Morrell and father-in-law Theodore Morrell. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Pound Buddies, or the Big Lake Humane Society.
