Daniel Ernest Bates' Obituary
Mr. Daniel Bates, age 66, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 5, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on February 5, 1950 to Ernest R. and Bernadine (Raeth) Bates. Dan proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he was exposed to Agent Orange, which caused the cancer that ended his life. He was employed by Howmet (Alcoa) for 28 years prior to his retirement. Dan was a kind, soft spoken man who loved being outdoors. Taking long walks, biking and camping were his favorites. He loved playing the guitar around the campfire. His greatest joy was having his whole family together. On March 21, 1969 Dan married the former Linda Marie Crowe in Muskegon and she survives him along with their 3 children, Amy (Brad) Henion, Jeffrey (Tracy) Bates, and Cole (Shauna Bittle) Bates; four granddaughters, Kelsey, Grace, Gypsy and Stella; brother, Dale (Diane) Bates; sister, Connie (Ted) Hawkins; sister-in-law, Audrey Bates; many nieces and nephews and his beloved golden retriever, “Hazel”. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dennis Bates. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, October 10, 2016 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S.
