Daniel A. Carlson's Obituary
Daniel Arthur Carlson, age 70, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on March 23, 2025. Dan was born in Muskegon to Arthur and Molly (Snyder) Carlson on August 17, 1954. He graduated from Muskegon High School and went on to work as a master carpenter, and then as a building inspector for the city of Muskegon.
Dan loved listening to music and playing guitar, and he was a longtime patron of Cowboy Jim’s. He liked to read, take rides by the lake, and work in his backyard, and he always enjoyed a cup of coffee. Some of his interests included airplanes, astronomy, frisbee, and football, especially watching his grandson Dennis’ high school games, never missing a game. He loved spending time outdoors, especially hiking or driving go karts. He was extremely handy; he built his own house and could handle any project he came across. One of his most cherished projects he completed was restoring a vintage vanity dresser for his granddaughter, Ali. He spent his childhood building homes with his father in the Lakeside area, and he is surely working on plenty of handyman projects with Jesus now. He was a funny, knowledgeable, well-rounded man with a big heart who loved his family.
Dan will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Niki (Kevin Roedig) Ramthun; two grandchildren: Dennis and Ali Ramthun; nieces and nephews: Kari (Tom) Kresnak, Steve Schroder, and John (Andrea) Schroder; and special cousin, Kasey (Julia) Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings: Barbara Carlson (Suminski), Charles “Chuck” Carlson, and Robin Carlson; and two nephews, Alan Thomas and Brian Carlson.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Daniel will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 25, 2025, at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Cowboy Jim's, 1156 Broadway Ave, Norton Shores, MI, 49444. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Muskegon Fire Department Central Station, 770 Terrace St, Muskegon, MI 49440.
