Mr. Daniel J. "DJ" Debniak's Obituary
Mr. Daniel J. “DJ” Debniak, age 87, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, February 10, 2012. He was born Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1924 in Saginaw, MI to Anthony and Martha (Somerfeld) Debniak and had resided in the Muskegon area since 1966. Mr. Debniak attended Ferris State University and was President of the Sigma Alpha Delta Fraternity. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and while in the Army developed a highly regarded logistics procedure. For 40 years he worked as a salesman, in marketing, and the distribution of petroleum products before retiring in 1998. He was a member of the West Michigan Oilmen’s Association during his working years and was a member of the Elks Lodge. He also was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. On June 12, 1948 he married his wife of 63 years, Frances M. Richards in Saginaw, MI and she survives him along with 4 children, Greg (Gayle) Debniak of Whitehall, Diane (Herb) Strandberg of Norton Shores, Richard “Dick” (Shirley) Debniak of North Richland Hills, TX, Mark (Kyle) Debniak of Hudsonville; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Frank J. (Virginia) Richards of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law, Connie A. Harrison of Norton Shores; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best buddy, “Sheba”. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Evelyn Zalba. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will take place 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church – Marian Chapel with the Rev. Fr. Philip P. Salmonowicz presiding. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Entombment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Humane Society or the Noah Project.
