Daniel J. Vryhof's Obituary
Daniel James “Kingpin” “The Whiz” Vryhof, age 72, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 5, 2025. He was born May 27, 1952, in Muskegon to William and Grace (Walhout) Vryhof and lived in the Hesperia area until the age of ten before moving to Muskegon. Dan graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School in 1970 and furthered his education at Muskegon Community College earning his associate’s degree. He worked for L3 as an electrical technician for 31 years until his retirement in 2007. On June 25, 2005, he married the former Tammy J. Haas in Muskegon at Fellowship Church and she survives him. Dan was a member of Fellowship Church and was active with the DeColores Community. He was a member of the Fruitport Eagles and the Amvets Post 1988 in Baldwin, loved watching NASCAR, enjoyed playing his guitar, and loved listening and playing country music. He also enjoyed computer games, especially checkers, and also was a Lionel Train enthusiast. Dan loved showing off his wall of trains and going to train shows and preferred collecting post-war Lionel train sets. He was a Ham Radio operator with his call sign being “Kingpin” and would spend hours talking to his wife “Angel Tracks” on the radio. Dan loved going to his cabin in Baldwin where he enjoyed riding his quad and pontoon rides on the water. At home, he enjoyed his tractor called “Big Red” and riding his Cushman Scooter around the property. He loved giving kids rides as well as teaching them how to drive them. SURVIVORS include his wife, Tammy; three children: Deanna (Marsha) Diamond-Reid of Howell, MI, Kristine (Jeremy Fox) Wier of Muskegon, and Gerald “Jay” Wier of Muskegon; seven grandchildren: Jayden Wier, Tyler Gove, Trent Wier, Caleb Wier, Korina (Cameron) Dancz, Brittany (Nate) Dion, and Timothy McClain; five great-grandchildren; two brothers: David (Anissa) Vryhof of Muskegon and John (Donna) Vryhof of Arizona; two sisters: Rose Wallace of Oregon and Virginia Peterson of Muskegon; in-laws: Nikki (Rick) Budde and Sue (Randy) Haas; several nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, William Cecil Savage, and brother-in-law, Alvin “Bud” Haas. SERVICES or Dan will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Fellowship Church, 4200 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Reeman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family to help defray funeral expenses would be appreciated.
