when grandpa cane to stay with us for two weeks, and conveniently we lost power from a storm almost as soon as he arrived. He brought with him the memories of his travels and the knowledge of Torah. He taught my small family how to participate in Shabbat, Hanukah, taught us how to prepare challah bread and shakshuka, and much more. He shared a time with us that i will never forget. as i was a stubborn teenager, i didnt take in as much as i should have.
i also remember during our first time celebrating shabbat, the power was out, the only thing that lit our kitchen was the light of two to three candles, and as grandpa laid a veil over my moms head to pray over her, i observed a look of pure admiration between daughter and father. a bond that is unbreakable. i could tell how much my mother loved and cherished this moment. and at the time it felt as if the world stopped as she gazed up at him praying over her. she could not keep a smile from her face. i will always adore this memory and hope that who ever reads will find happiness in our own.
