I served with Daniel on Kamehameha 76-78 and of course his brother-in-law, Michael Ratway. The name, Daniel Zimmerman, did not ring a bell. Then one of our shipmates reminded me his nickname was, "Mom". And that said it best. The kind of guy that actually cared how others were dealt with.
