Danny R. Komar's Obituary
Danny “Dan” R. Komar, age 80, passed away on March 19, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in Spring Lake, Michigan. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 3, 1943, to Myron and Wanda (Dworzenski) Komar. Dan graduated from Wayne Memorial High School in 1961. On October 6, 1967, Dan married the love of his life, Judy (Johnson) Komar at St. John's Episcopal Church in Westland, Michigan. He worked in the finance and insurance industry for 40 years when he retired in 2006. Dan enjoyed a variety of creative interests, including writing, woodworking, drawing, brewing, landscaping and gardening. After retiring, Dan wrote and published his first novel in 2012 (Milo, Maybelline and Murder), a Texas police mystery. He was active and enjoyed biking and trail walking with his best friends, his yellow labs, Mac and Jack. Dan was an avid Detroit sports fan, go Tigers and Lions! He lit up during the Kentucky Derby with a talent for choosing the winning horse. Dan was bestowed with the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel, the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky for service and accomplishments on behalf of others. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Judy Komar; children, Phil and Heidi (Henning) Komar, Kevin and Kim (Michalak) Komar; grandchildren, Shelby (Tyler) Cazier, Carly Komar, Zoe Komar, Gavin Komar, Caleb Komar, Teagan Komar and Avery Komar; nieces, Beth (Doug) Gowan and Mary Jane (Todd) Down; and nephew, Jeff (Karen) Komar. He was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Wanda Komar; brother, Raymond Komar; and daughter, Kathleen Komar. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
