David Lee Bennett's Obituary
Mr. David Lee Bennett, PE, age 75, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, October 25, 2025 in Laketon Township. David was born in Hamburg, Michigan on December 16, 1949 to Charles and Agnes (Webster) Bennett. David graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Civil Engineering. After working as a civil engineer for ten years, he founded Bennett Engineering Inc. in 1982 and went on to enjoy a distinguished career as an environmental engineer for more than forty years, reshaping the landscape of Michigan. His passion for his work was so strong that he never retired. His devotion to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family, in which he left a lasting legacy to his children and grandchildren. On August 22, 1970, David married the former Becky Jean Read, and together they shared 53 years of marriage until her passing in 2024. After Becky’s passing, he especially cherished his weekly “Dinners with Dad” with each of his daughters and their families. He also found loyal companionship in his beloved dog, Nico. David was a long-time member of Laketon Bethel Church and valued the community and faith he found there. He is survived by his children, Heather (John) Wilke, Sarah (Curt) Weiden, and Meredith (Kyle) Kriger; daughter-in-law, Megan Bennett; grandchildren, Morgan, Gabe, Noah, Charlie, Maddyson, Lincoln, Asher, Leah, and Robby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Becky; son, Robert Bennett; grandson, Joseph Gerrans; and parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Laketon Bethel Church (1568 W. Giles Rd., Muskegon, MI 49445) with Dr. Sherwin Brantsen officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to his service with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be in Laketon Township Cemetery.
