David Lewis Boes' Obituary
David Lewis Boes, age 89, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at The Poppen House surrounded by family and holding the hand of his bride of 68 years. He was born October 26, 1934 in Coldwater, MI to Carl and Wilma (Shaffer) Boes and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. Dave was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. On September 3, 1955, he married Betty J. Christenson in Muskegon. He attended the University of Michigan and later earned his Bachelor of Accounting Degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1963. Dave worked as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service for 29 years and retired in 1994. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church for 78 years where he served as deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor and the treasurer for 43 years. Dave also served as treasurer for the Michigan Baptist Conference and the Stillwater Springs Association. He coached several youth baseball teams and the Lakeside softball team for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, hunting, walking and playing softball. He also participated in numerous golf leagues over the years. Survivors include his loving wife, Betty; sons, Tim (Cyndi) Boes, Erik Boes; daughters-in-law, Maria Boes, Bonnie Boes, Kristi Boes; grandchildren, Kristina (Mark) Somerville, Erika Boes, Brett (Hannah) Boes, Chelsey (Ezli Teran) Boes, Jacob (Meaghan) Boes, Kaitlyn (Tyler) Swearson, Caleb Boes, Staci Boes; great-grandchildren, Gabe, Amaya, Ian, Oaklyn, Evelyn, Ezli; and sister, Karen (James) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Richard Boes; son, Mark Boes; and granddaughter, Alicia Boes. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Lakeside Baptist Church (2250 Denmark Street, Muskegon, MI 49441) with Dr. Jim Lacy officiating. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Friday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444.
