Dr. David Henry Deitrick's Obituary
Dr. David H. Deitrick, age 76, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, in Muskegon, Michigan. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 11, 1949, to Donald and Evelyn (Pothast) Deitrick.
David received his Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine and dedicated 40 years to family practice in Muskegon County before retiring in 2014. On May 31, 1975, he married the love of his life, the former Susan Shagena, in St. Clair, Michigan, and they enjoyed nearly 50 years of adventure together.
David was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was deeply rooted in his faith. A man of many interests, he pursued lifelong passions in photography, boating, motorcycling, camping, technology, and woodworking. He found joy in the natural beauty around his Mona Lake home and embraced the splendor of Michigan’s waterways. He was also a proud member of the Harley Owners Group and the Muskegon Area Amateur Radio Club. In retirement, he volunteered at The Lakeshore Fab Lab, teaching local children about high-tech equipment and skills.
David is survived by his loving wife, Susan; their two sons, Commander Daniel Deitrick, U.S. Navy (Retired), and Dr. Donald Deitrick, D.V.M. (Megan Alana Taylor, Ph.D.); brothers, John Deitrick (Mary Alice Sudac) and Gregory Deitrick (Yvette Marie Toussaint); sisters, Donna Derstadt (John Berschied, Jr.), Rita Reimbold (Richard), and Theresa Alvarado (Rick); as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
VISITATION will be held from 5:00–8:00 PM on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, with the Rosary prayed at 5:00 PM. VISITATION will also be held one hour prior to Mass at church on Friday.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 25, 2025, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 2929 McCracken St., Norton Shores, MI 49441. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. MEMORIALS in memory of David may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.
