David "Kirby" Swords' Obituary
David K. “Kirby” Swords, age 83, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024 in Muskegon. He was born on May 1, 1941 in Muskegon to Earl and Lyla (Simonson) Swords and was a life resident of the area. Kirby was a City of Muskegon Fire Fighter for 16 years before retiring in 1982. He then went to work for the American Red Cross for many years. Kirby was a member of Calvin Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. On May 26, 1962 he married the former Karen Schwartz and they celebrated 62 years of marriage. SURVIVORS include his wife, Karen; two children: son, David Swords and daughter, Amy (Chris) Morency; five grandchildren, Thomas, Kirby, Kaleigh, Andrew and Jared; eight great grandchildren; sister, Kay (Chuck) George; and many nieces and nephews. Kirby was preceded in death by his grandson, Samuel Swords; brothers, Richard Swords, Donald Swords; and sister, Barbara Rasmussen. MEMORIAL SERVICES for Kirby will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday August 14, 2024 at Calvin Church (973 W. Norton Ave. Muskegon, MI 49441) with Pastor Mark Milkamp and Pastor Kirby Swords Shepard officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at church.
