David W Plyler's Obituary
Psalm 19:1-3
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
On May 30, 2025 Dave Plyler entered his eternal reward with his Savior, Jesus Christ. David was a follower of Christ and dedicated much of his life to sharing his faith and the love of the Savior with his family and those around him. In his retirement years he invested in the lives of younger men by meeting with them for Bible study and learning more about their Savior together.
David W. Plyler was born August 10, 1938 to Alden and Lillian (Howe) Plyler in Punxsutawney, PA and married the former Dorothy Clark on June 27, 1959. Together they have two children, Jonathan Plyler of Lenoir City, TN and Jeffrey Plyler of Muskegon.
David was active in church throughout his life and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Muskegon for over fifty years, having taught Sunday School, worked with Boy’s Brigade, AWANA and Adventure Club children's ministries, and singing in the choir and men’s quartets. Prior to attending Bethel, David and Dorothy had attended Lakeside Baptist Church and were involved in ministry there, as well. David supported his wife, Dorothy, as she served many meals in their home over the years to family, friends, guest speakers, and missionaries as a way of showing his Savior’s love through hospitality. David enjoyed playing the trumpet and used his talent playing in church services over the years.
David was also a veteran, having proudly served his Country in the United States Army.
David and Dorothy were married for 64 years and are survived by children Jonathan of Lenoir City, TN, and Jeff (Kimberly) of Muskegon, his sister Nancy (Mike) Callahan of Kaw City, OK, sister-in-law Rosie (Louis) Carlson of Ludington, seven grandchildren; Matthew (Sarah) Plyler of Kingston, TN, Samuel Plyler of Muskegon, Greg Plyler of Grand Rapids, Lilly Plyler of Muskegon, Olivia (Zech) Gurley of Portland, MI, Ian Kelsey and Colin Kelsey of Muskegon; two great grandchildren, Micah Plyler and Eve Plyler of Kingston, TN, niece Rita (Gary) Kolanowski of Ludington, nephew Brian Carlson of Ludington, nephew Tom (Lisa) Carlson of Brooklyn, WI, niece Rachel (Brian) Martin of Topeka, KS, nephew Adam Hummel of Salina, KS, Sharon (John) Zortman of York Haven, PA, Debbie Herman of York, PA, Johnny (Ellen Bower) Plyler of York, PA, and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his parents Alden and Lillian Plyler, in-laws Joe and Edith Clark, brothers John Plyler and Robert Plyler.
