David E. Ruble's Obituary
David E. Ruble, age 88, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born June 8, 1936, in Battle Creek, MI to the Rev. Ellsworth and Lillie (Holley) Ruble. David was a U.S. Army Veteran. On June 10, 1961, he married the former Rosemary Hamacher in Sparta, MI and she preceded him in death on November 13, 2019. For many years, David was a car salesman for George K. Herman Chevrolet in Ravenna, Matson Oldsmobile-Cadillac Company in Muskegon, and ended his career at Betten Baker. He also owned and operated Gates Trailer Sales for many years. David was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, enjoyed anything outdoors including hunting and fishing, and riding and racing snowmobiles. He was a model railroad enthusiast and a hobby farmer. He loved to travel with his wife and friends and enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin in Thompsonville. David also loved his four-legged furry friends. He was very involved and took great pride in the Ravenna Community for many years. He was a member of the Ravenna Lion’s Club, St. Catherine Catholic Church Men’s Club, the Conservation Club, the American Legion Sherman Moore Post #297, the Chamber of Commerce of Ravenna, was on the Ravenna Fire Department, the Downtown Development Board, Township Board of Review, and the Historical Committee for the Train Depot. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him. SURVIVORS include four children: Michael (Nicole) Ruble of Grand Haven, Karen (Troy) Swanson of Kent City, Sharon (Kevin) Drake of Katy, TX, and Diane (Joe) Kulfan of Grand Rapids; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marcia (Leon) Brandli of Denver, CO and Carolyn (Cliff) Nicholas of Cadillac, MI; brother-in-law, Richard (Pat) Hamacher; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Hamacher and Doreen Norton. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Julia McDonald; and five brothers-in-law. The family would like to thank Emmanuel Hospice and Tammy and her staff at the Tibbet House for the exceptional care given to David and the family over the past month. Services for David will start with the Rosary being prayed at 4:00 PM on Friday, October 4, 2024 at St. Catherine Catholic Church followed by Visitation from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM at the church. The Funeral Mass for David will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 5, 2024 at St. Catherine Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place following the mass at St. Catherine Catholic Church Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Sherman Moore Post #297. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Catherine Catholic Church, American Legion Sherman Moore Post #297, or the Ravenna Lions Club.
