David H. "Dave" Schoonbeck's Obituary
David H. “Dave” Schoonbeck, age 76, passed away at home on Monday, September 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 14, 1948, to William and Charlotte “Chuck” (Zimmerman) Schoonbeck in Muskegon, MI and has remained a lifelong resident. He graduated from Mona Shores High School class of 1966. Dave met the love of his life, Jan Cook, and married her on the day of love, Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1975. Together the couple cherished nearly 50 years full of love and laughter. He was a dedicated employee of Howmet where he worked as an accountant for over 30 years. Dave also was a servant of the Lord and dedicated nearly the same amount of time working in the ministries as an associate pastor at Grace Bible Church. His church family and being an integral part of his community, including for weddings and funerals, played a big impact on his life. In his younger years, you could usually find him out on the water, fishing with his kids. He was known for his handy work, always tinkering away in his garage building something new. Dave will always be remembered for his sense of humor, filling a room with endless laughter, and always being a jokester. His tender-loving and rambunctious spirit will truly be missed by so many. He is survived by his loving wife, Jan Schoonbeck; four children, Jeff (Lori) Schoonbeck, Robin (Adam) Aplin, Brenna (Steve) Smith and Bethany (Ryan) Cody; eight grandchildren, Hunter (Kylie) Torrey, Hayley Torrey, Michael Morrall, Lauren McCall, Trent McCall, Jake (Bella) Aplin, Brenden (Danielle) Schoonbeck and Lillyanna (Noah) Schoonbeck; six great-grandchildren, Melina, Zayden, Sienna, Addison, Bentley, and Avah; one brother; Buster (Shelley) Schoonbeck; brothers-in-law, Dale (Pat) Cook and Calvin Cook; 14 nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; William & Charlotte Schoonbeck; in-laws, William (Geraldine) Cook; and brother-in-law, William “Billy” Cook. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Grace Bible Church, 3053 Evanston Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. A visitation with the family will be held from 10-11:00 AM at church. With a luncheon to follow the service. Memorial contributions in Dave’s honor can be directed to the family.
