Dear Sutton Family,
I am so sorry for the loss of David. I had feared for his going last winter, and was so encouraged by his recovery that I expected to see him this summer. I was so looking forward to that. His passing leaves such a hole in our lives. He was such a positive presence, full of love, ideas, reverence and humor. I will miss even his awful jokes. His rendition of an interview with the basketball player Tyrone Shoelaces has me chuckling to this day.
And I was looking forward to continuing our discussion about the nature of miracles. David and I had different perspectives and found answers in different places, but our discussions were happening because of love and sharing and reverence.
David is often with me, however distantly, when I run, most especially when I race and compete hard. He understood and appreciated that spirit of competition and striving that comes with athleticism. When the trails get steep and I start to swing my arms like a speed skater, I think of David. His memory is treasured. I will miss his gracious, happy sharing, reverence, commitment and the love he gave us all.
My deepest sympathy to you all,
Cousin Tom

What an absolute joy to know and work with Dr. Sutton. Some of his clients were my students and I was always impressed that he knew them so well...he knew their souls almost. He loved his job...it was very apparent. He loved the Lord....also very apparent.
He loved.......... Barbara Novak-Banta
One quote I remember right now is:Who's in charge of Heather; and I always responded:Heather. He was my favorite Doctor. He will be in our hearts forever.
Doctor Dave--loved his friends, his patients, his family, his country and his Lord. Left this earth good with all of them. That's having lived a glorious life.
Your old pal,

Dr. Sutton had an infectious joy about him I always admired. He was always ready with a smile, a story or a postive message whether I saw him at a sporting event, a conference or the local rink. As a devoted father, he was so proud of his family and absolutely beamed whenever he talked about his wife or girls. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and may the coming days bring strength, comfort and peace.
Dr. Sutton was a great man. I took my daughter Tierzah and my son Travis to him for years. We always had a good time visiting with him (at least that is what he made you feel like) as we reassessed how the kids were doing. My kids were positively affected by his life like many others. Tierzah will always remember him asking her, "Who controls Tierzah?" with her quickly replying, "Tierzah controls Tierzah!" She also will always remember what her options are when choosing proteins to eat, as he quizzed her on them at every visit due to her beanpole figure. We had fun going to see Dr Sutton, and he always showed love and compassion in all he did. Thanks be to God and the Sutton family for sharing him with us!
I greatly admired Dave's passion for helping people. He was an outstanding physician and lived a live of the highest concern for the disadvantaged. His Christian life was an inspiration to me and so many others. I valued him deeply as a colleague. Ray Komray M.D.
