David M. Szymas' Obituary
Mr. David M. Szymas, age 61, of Grand Haven passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024, at home after succumbing to his battle of schizophrenia. He was born October 22, 1962, in Zeeland to James and Mary (Ryder) Szymas.
David served his country in the 101st Army Airborne and worked as a registered nurse, medic, and air medic all along the lakeshore for many years. He loved music and held a second degree in ministry from the International Leadership College of Hillsong in Sydney, Australia.
He played guitar in nursing homes and at Teen Challenge - to provide rehabilitation services to individuals struggling with addiction. David was strong in his faith and was a mentor to many.
He also enjoyed hiking, going to the beach, Worship on the Waterfront, traveling, and spending time with family on their farm.
David is survived by his mother, Mary; siblings, Karen (Gary II) Orr, James (Vikki) Szymas; many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; and his faithful companion, Suki. He was preceded in death by his father, James Szymas Sr.
A memorial visitation will be held 4-7 PM Friday, September 20, 2024, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. A special presentation by the Muskegon Area Nurse Honor Guard will take place at 6:30 PM. Memorial contributions in memory of David may be given to Mosaic Counseling in Grand Haven, MI to help ensure affordable and accessible mental health services for all.
