Mr. David Lee Thies, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. David Lee Thies, Sr., age 73, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. Mr. Thies was born June 15, 1940 to Lawrence and Nellie (Zulaski) Thies in Muskegon. He was employed as the parts manager at Lincoln-Mercury for 42 years. He was also assistant manager at the Habitat for Humanity’s Re-Store for 8 years. On October 28, 1961 he married the former Sharon VanderKooi and she survives him. David was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served as Chairman of the Congregation and Chairman of the Board of Elders. He was also a 40 year member of the choir. David bowled for the Lutheran League for 40 years. He also enjoyed fishing, jigsaw puzzles and Sudoku. Along with Sharon, his wife of 52 years, he is SURVIVED by his children, Dawn (Tom) Francis of Spring Lake and David L. (Beth) Thies, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; his granddaughters, Sharon (John) DeBoer, Jennifer (Carlos) Ley, Anna Marie Thies and Mariah Thies; 5 great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Gary) Schultz and Joyce (Denny) Dennis; brother-in-law Steven (Sharon) VanderKooi; and several nieces and nephews. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1215 E. Apple Ave., with Pastor Robert J. Conradt officiating. VISITATION will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or Muskegon County Habitat for Humanity.
