David G. Wheeler's Obituary
David George Wheeler, age 76, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 in Montague, MI. He was born August 13, 1943 in Muskegon to Roy and Viola Marie (Rossell) Wheeler. David had a way with words, telling stories and sharing life lessons with his family and friends and he always had a joke or one-liner to bring a smile to someone’s face. One of his final pieces of advice was to “define your dash” and make the most of your time from the day you were born to the day you depart. The defining moments of his life were filled with faith, family, and friends, and he shared his love with all of them as a true testament to his faith in God. David loved fishing as well as the game of horseshoes and the sound of ringers being thrown can now be heard near the banks of Heaven’s fishing hole. David is a graduate of Western Michigan University where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. He taught 6th grade math and science for North Muskegon Public Schools and also coached football. David then went to work for Rain Bird for several years before owning and operating his own business, Automatic Irrigation Supply, for 30 years prior to his retirement. On February 7, 2004, he married Linda Kay Byers at the White River Light Station in Fruitland Twp. David and Linda enjoyed wintering in Nettles Island, Jensen Beach, FL and were members of the Nettles Island Community Church and First Baptist Church of Muskegon. SURVIVORS include his wife, Linda; 4 children: Rebecca (David) King of Milford, MI, Wayne (Christy) Wheeler of Westfield, IN, Michael Byers of Indianapolis, IN, and Adam (Kate) Byers of Libertyville, IL; 6 grandchildren: Madeline, Julia, Ben, Hailey, Audrey, and Carter; 3 sisters: Vicki (Al) Williams, Melodie Walker, and Debra Jo (Warren) Hardman; and many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Peggy Wheeler; and son, Jonathan Byers. A private celebration of David’s life will be held later. MEMORIALS to the Nettles Island Horseshoe Club (c/o Tammy Gibson, 303 Nettles Blvd., Jensen Beach, FL 34957) or Goodness Village Organization that provided the prayers and housing for Dave and Linda while in Little Rock receiving care (www.goodnessvillage.org) will be appreciated.
