David Eugene Carter's Obituary
Mr. David Eugene Carter, age 82, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 at Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. He was born June 11, 1927 in Battle Creek, MI to Robert and Eleanor (Nichols) Carter and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Pacific Theater during WWII and was sent to Pearl Harbor to assist with the cleanup after the attacks. On September 26, 1947, he married the former Theda Mae Pearl Hall in Muskegon and she survives him. Prior to his retirement in 1984, he worked 15 years as a truck driver for Wagoner Transport. He was formerly a long-time member of Fellowship Reformed Church and currently a member of Fifth Reformed Church. He was also active in DeColores Ministry and was a member of the Airstream Club. He enjoyed ice skating and roller skating, computer games, repairing small engines and traveling with his family. David enjoyed life to the fullest and loved the Lord. Along with his wife, Theda Mae, he is SURVIVED by 4 daughters, Terry (Larry) Bloomfield, Pamela (Eugene) Sinen, Joy (Tom) Wolters, Delene (Robert) Dyer; 8 grandchildren, William (Wendy) Walker, Damon (Melody) Walker and Wendy Walker, Rachel (Kevin) Hirons, Jessica Wolters, Mark (Courtney) Dyer, Michael Dyer, Angela (Dan) Uhlmeyer; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 granddogs, Kahlua Wolters and Sadie Sinen; 1 grandcat, Kellie Dyer; 1 brother, Richard (Catherine) Crosby; and 1 sister, Doris Ropotar. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Timothy Wayne Carter (1952); his parents; his foster-parents, Jesse and Delia Everard; and 1 sister, Ruth Nolan. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Friday, September 25, 2009 at Fellowship Reformed Church (4200 E. Apple Ave.) with Pastor Greg VanderMeer and Pastor Norman Swier co-officiating. Honorary Military Rites will be offered at the church by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans and the U.S. National Guard. INTERMENT will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with David’s family will be 5-8 PM Thursday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210.
