Dawn Marie Rizley's Obituary
Dawn Marie Rizley (née West), age 73, passed away peacefully at her Laketon Township home on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. Born on November 23, 1951, in Muskegon to George and Anne (McCann) West, Dawn spent her childhood in Whitehall, where she was known for her boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm. A proud alumna of Central Michigan University, Dawn earned her bachelor's degree in education. Her career as a health and physical education teacher at Holton Public Schools spanned many years, and she was also a beloved guest teacher at Reeths-Puffer. Over the years, she coached everything from gymnastics to volleyball to softball, inspiring countless young athletes with her fun-loving spirit and commitment to excellence. Dawn married her best friend and partner in life, Wayne Rizley, on February 2, 1974, at St. James Catholic Church in Montague. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and many cherished memories. Dawn is survived by Wayne, as well as their two daughters, Angela (Darin) Grant of Laketon Township and Nicole Rizley (Nick Gallant) of Fort Myers. She was also blessed with six grandchildren: Kohl (Myah), Klay, and Kye Grant; Kenna (Justin) Riemersma; and Magnolia and Sabal Jean Gallant. Dawn is further survived by her dear sister, Susan (Carl) Treutler. She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Anne Rutledge, brother, George West and her infant son, Wayne Thomas Rizley Jr. Dawn will be remembered not only as a devoted teacher and coach but as a woman who profoundly impacted those around her. Her love was evident in countless ways—through her unwavering support at sports competitions, the cherished "You are Loved" pins, heartfelt inspirational cards, shared meals, warm hugs, and even a perfectly timed sarcastic remark that made you feel truly seen. In honor of Dawn’s legacy, memorial contributions can be made to the Holton Public High School Athletic Department (6500 Fourth Street Holton, MI 49425).
