Debra VanderStelt's Obituary
Mrs. Debra VanderStelt, age 68, of Grand Haven passed away Monday, March 25, 2024. She was born January 5, 1956, in Muskegon to Gerald and Ethel (Bosch) Dood and had resided in the Grand Haven area for most of her life. Debra attended Western Michigan Christian High School, graduating in 1974. On February 21, 1976, she married David VanderStelt, her high school sweetheart in Grand Haven.
After high school Debra began a long career in the banking industry, starting at The Peoples Bank. After banking, she worked as an office assistant for H&H Industries where she retired in 2015. Debra enjoyed camping, bowling, golfing and loved spending time with her family. During football season, you would always find her wearing University of Michigan attire and rooting for her favorite team. Debra was a lighthouse enthusiast and one day hoped to visit all the lighthouses in Michigan. Debra was a member of the American Legion Post 28 Auxiliary and a former member of the Muskegon Eagles.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, David; two children, Michele VanderStelt and Marc (fiancé, Kris Collee) VanderStelt; three grandchildren, Kayleigh Gonzalez, Matthew Britton, and Lucile Holman; siblings: Steve (Kathy) Dood, and Tom (Kari) Dood, and Sally Bosch; sister in laws: Sharlene (Larry) Nyhoff, and Carole (Mario) Bartoli, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Ethel; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Ruby (Pomeroy) VanderStelt; brother-in-law, Albert VanderStelt, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Jennifer VanderStelt.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Monday, April 1, 2024, at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution in memory of Debra may be given to Western Michigan Christian High School or Grand Haven Christian School.
