Mrs. Delores "Dee"' Bishop's Obituary
Mrs. Delores J. “Dee” Bishop, age 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday morning, May 22, 2017. She was born July 21, 1926 to Bert and Gertrude (Medendorp) Hoeksema in Muskegon, and was a lifelong resident. Dee had been the secretary-treasurer at Bishop Heating and Air Conditioning for 25 years before retiring. She was a longtime member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, where she had been the funeral luncheon coordinator for 22 years, and was active in Ladies Aid and Mary Martha. On June 7, 1946 Dee married Fred “Pete” Bishop, and he preceded her in death on June 19, 2016. Survivors include 1 son, David (Joanne) Bishop of Norton Shores; 1 daughter, Gayla Batts of Grosse Pointe Park; 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Dr. Ronald Hoeksema; 1 sister-in-law, Nelva “Mickey” VanAndel. She was also preceded in death by her son Gregory Bishop; son-in-law, John Batts; siblings, Jay Hoeksema, Rev. John Hoeksema, Betty Hoeksema, Evelyn Buthker, Audrey Burgess and Marvin Hoeksema. The funeral service for Mrs. Bishop will be Friday, May 26, at 11:00 AM at Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 695 Allen Avenue, with Rev. Benjamin Oliveira officiating. Visitation at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 will be from 6-8 PM Thursday evening. Burial will take place at Restlawn Cemetery.
