Delores I. "Lorrie" Smith's Obituary
Delores Irene “Lorrie” Smith, age 94, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021. She was born February 20, 1927 to Martin and Virginia (Hale) Hagen. Lorrie was a 1946 graduate of Muskegon Heights High School. She worked 25 years for Howmet Corporation prior to her retirement in 1991. Lorrie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had been a Patrol Mother at Glenside School for several years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed going to casinos and playing the lottery, was a season ticket holder for Muskegon hockey, and was a fan and loved to watch golf and the Detroit Tigers. SURVIVORS include 5 children: Mary (Bill) Baker of Grand Haven, Karen (Paul) Fessenden of Florida, Jeffrey (Jodi) Smith, Gregg (Debbie) Smith both of Muskegon, and Thomas (Lois) Smith of Fremont; 2 grandchildren: Tara and Jason Smith; brother, Richard (Carolyn) Hagen of Muskegon; 2 sisters: Emma Jane Gates of Muskegon and Barbara (Jerry) Lahnala of Fruitport; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Frances Hagen, and best friend and cousin, Jean Hale. Lorrie’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Poppen Residence for the wonderful care given to her and the family the past couple of weeks. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 30, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church (3225 Roosevelt Rd.) with Pastor Paul C. Appold officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Internment will take place in Spring Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Harbor Hospice Foundation or Trinity Lutheran Church.
