Dennis Charles Anastor's Obituary
Dennis Charles Anastor, age 82, passed away at home with his family on Friday, June 17, 2022. Denny was born on December 14, 1939 to Charles and Marguerite (Daniels) Anastor. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Cathy J. (Pontious) Anastor; his children, Nicholas Anastor, Kristen (Troy) DiPiazza, James (Maureen) Pontious, and Joseph (Jane) Pontious; grandchildren, Dominic (Erica), Dmitrius (Chelsea), Trent, Paige (Lex), Phoebe (Dominick), Brooke (Drew), Keagan (Zach), Courtney (Trent), Michael, Nickolas, Jonathan (Elizabeth), as well as 7 great grandchildren; siblings, Darlene Umphrey (Mike); several nieces and nephews and countless friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Tom Anastor, and his mother-in-law, Jean Johnson. After graduating from South High School, Denny served in the U.S. Army for 7 years. Following his service, he worked for his father at Art Optical, taking over the business when his father retired. He fought in the Golden Gloves. He was a motorcycle rider in Endoro and Ice Racing. He had a race car and drove at Berlin Raceway. He was a lifetime member at the Caledonia Sportsmen’s Club, longtime member of the American Legion in Caledonia. He loved spending time outdoors whether he was hunting, fishing in Alaska or on the golf course, or playing cards with all his buddies. Denny’s family and friends meant the world to him and he always cherished time spent with them – especially his grandchildren. His family will remember him by his contagious smile and witty jokes. The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice Staff. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church (9669 Kraft Ave, SE, Caledonia) with Rev. Fr. Michael Cilibraise presiding and Military Honors offered by the Honor Guard from the Caledonia American Legion and the Michigan Army National Guard Funeral Detail. Visitation will take place one hour prior at the church. There will be a luncheon following the service at the American Legion in Caledonia. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Kindred Hospice, or Holy Family Catholic Church, or the American Legion in Caledonia.
