Dennis Metternich's Obituary
Mr. Dennis Metternich, age 68, of Spring Lake passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017. He was born March 11, 1949 in Grand Rapids to Eugene and Dorothy (VanderMeer) Metternich. On March 19, 1971 he married DiAnne Gingrich in Grand Rapids.
Denny served his country in the Michigan National Guard. He worked for Brunswick in Muskegon for 40 years, retiring in 2014. His greatest joy was his family. He loved the walks he took with his grandson Tyler and watching the sporting events of his two younger grandchildren, Elise and Matthew. He enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR races, and was also a lifelong fan of the Boston Celtics. He was also a talented artist, a wonderful storyteller, and was always quick with a joke. Denny touched the hearts of all who knew him, and will be greatly missed. As a final act of love, he was able to give a stranger the gift of sight with the donation of his corneas.
He is survived by his wife, DiAnne; two daughters, Angela (Shane) Zander, and Melissa (Gerry) Isip both of Spring Lake; three grandchildren: Tyler Metternich, Elise Zander, and Matthew Isip; sisters-in-law: Madelyn Metternich, Gail (Brigitte) Bartolucci-Gingrich; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Eugene and Dorothy; brothers, Roger and Dale Metternich; and in-laws, Vaughn and Phyllis Gingrich.
A celebration of life will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, March 17, 2018 at The VanZantwick Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Denny may be given to The American Heart Association. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com
