So very sorry for your loss. Prayers to the entire family.
Derek was one of my best friends senior year of high school. He got me through a tough year with laughter and a shared interest in metal music. We created our own class to take as an elective just the two of us, so I got to spend a lot of time with him at school. We built a wooden go-cart, and for my last day we rode it around the school and nearly bulldozed the super intendant. He knew how to bring joy to those around him and I wish we kept in better touch over the years. I hope to share a drink with you on the other side wood buddy and catch up like you said we’d do someday.
I’m really sorry to hear about Derek’s passing. I was on student council with Derek senior year at Spring Lake, and remember him being easy to get along with and having a dry witty sense of humor. Thinking of his family as you celebrate his life this weekend.
I've never met anyone more curious than Derek. He was always asking questions. When something piqued his interest, he could focus 100% of his attention on it and you could see his joy in learning every aspect of how it worked and then was so delighted to share his knowledge . He knew a million different interesting things and was such a sweet little boy. I'm sorry I didn't get to know him very much as an adult.
Derek was one of my first real friends, we met through a roleplay fantasy site, where you could make your own characters and stories with each other. From there we talked almost everyday, he quickly became one of the most important people to me. It didn't matter that we never met in real life, we were best friends. He helped me through dark times and I helped him I hope. I'll miss you so much Derek, thank you for always being there for me.
