Derek Wade Murphy's Obituary
Derek Wade Murphy, age 40, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021. He was born December 24, 1980 in Salina, KS to Roger L. and Janet D. (Hauck) Murphy and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. Derek graduated from Oakridge High School and earned his Bachelor of Architectural Design from Baker College. He worked in logistics for Honeywell the past 7 years. Derek was on the first Oakridge Championship Football Team in 1997. He had an infectious laughter and he had the gift of gab. Derek knew no strangers and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Derek’s love for his children made them his first priority and he wanted to teach them everything he could. Derek was a hands-on fixer and loved spending time in his garage. He was a fan of Kansas State University. Derek will be greatly missed by all he loved. Survivors include his wife, Laurie A. Murphy; 3 children, Corbin, Lillian and Nora Murphy; his parents, Roger and Janet Murphy; his brother, Seth Murphy; his sister, Angela Murphy; his in-laws, Mark Remkes and Kathy Sorensen; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and special aunts, Nancy and Sharon. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and 2 uncles, Dennis Murphy and Bob Hauck. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Egelston Township Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Education Fund for his children.
