Dexter graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1952. He attended Ohio University where he met his future bride Gladys Edythe Bukowski during their sophomore year. Dexter graduated from Ohio University in 1956 with a degree in business and served in the United States Army for two years. Dexter and Gladys were married on August 11, 1957 in Ashtabula, Ohio. Dexter was a loyal and loving husband to Gladys for over 60 years. Dexter and Gladys moved to western Michigan in 1968. He devoted himself to his wife and their three daughters; Stephanie (Phil) Mayrose, Jennifer (Laird) Wynn, and Becky Moll. He was a role model for hard work and generosity to his six grandchildren Jaclyn, Joseph, Eva, Jack, Jesse and Jake.
