Diane J. Carlson's Obituary
Diane Jean Carlson, age 84, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, April 20th, 2024. She was born on September 8th, 1939, in Muskegon, MI, to Elwin and Lois (Speese) Bennett. She resided in Whitehall, MI her entire life. On June 6th, 1959, she married Kenneth J. Carlson at the Fruitland Evangelical Covenant Church in Fruitland Township. Diane began her work career as a cashier at Plumbs grocery store in Whitehall and worked for Kroger’s in North Muskegon. Before retiring, Diane worked at Hamady’s and remained close friends with many of the customers whom she served throughout the years.
Diane enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also loved taking trips to the Little River Casino with her daughters, Cindy and Linda. Diane liked to purchase her morning coffee along with her daily lottery tickets from her friends at Wesco. Her favorite TV shows were Everyone Loves Raymond and The Andy Griffith Show. In her younger years, she enjoyed ice fishing for Perch with her husband, daughters, and granddaughter.
Diane will be dearly missed by her sister, Joan (Cliff) Hassell, daughters, Cindy (Tom) Thielman, Linda (Chuck) Lerner, and Sherri Carlson. Diane was extremely proud of all her grandchildren, Ken, Robby, Lindsay, Jordan, Lauren, and Taylor Rae. She has three great grandchildren, Olivia, Benjy, and soon-to-be born baby Ewan. Diane is survived by her favorite Uncle Billy (Marge) McCully, nieces, nephews, and special friends, Laverne Nelson and Janet Sharlow. Diane is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ken Carlson, daughter Denise Taylor-Warne, second husband John (Jim) Stone, brothers Bob and Lynn, sisters Maxine, Renee, and Sondra, and beloved pets.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services. VISITATION will be one hour prior at 10:00am. Luncheon to follow the service where the family welcomes you to share memories and stories about Diane. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
