Diane Mae Shields' Obituary
Diane Mae Shields, age 90, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Chestnut Fields Living Center. She was born May 23, 1933 in Ashland, WI to Hugh and Gladys (Katon) McCarl and lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. Diane married Patrick Owen Shields on October 11, 1952 in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on March 20, 2022. Diane worked 24 years as a floor supervisor at J.C. Penney and later worked at Wendy’s restaurant and as the lunchroom monitor for Muskegon Catholic Central High School where she retired in 2019. Diane volunteered many years for the Lenten Fish Fry’s at MCC, the Michigan Irish Music Festival and the Muskegon Polish Festival. She was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and MCC Football. Her passion for her family and attending the many sporting events for her grandkids were top priority for Diane. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include 3 children, Mark (Sandy) Shields, Kurt (Maribeth) Shields, Kim Helton; 7 grandchildren, Stacey (Matt) Dundon, Christy Shields, Justin Shields, Jamie (Adam) Kushman, Ashley Shields, Logan Helton, Payton Helton; 9 great-grandchildren, Jacob Sladick, Maddison Dundon, Kendal Shields, X-Zavien Shields, Brody Dundon, Leo Shields, Becham Shields, Everett Kushman, Sterling Kushman; 1 brother, Jack (Ellen) McCarl; 1 sister, Kay (Richard) Seymour; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and 1 brother, Robert McCarl. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, June 30, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (150 E. Summit Ave) with Rev. Fr. Douglas A. Braun presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass in the Victor Miller Room at Sacred Heart. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
