Diane Renee (Willet) Nilson's Obituary
Ms. Diane Reneé (Willet) Nilson, age 40, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Newaygo. Diane was born on July 16, 1970 to Merle E. “Gene” and Cheri (White) Willet in Traverse City. She was a member of Kainay Community Church. In previous years Diane had worked as a truck driver for Werner Enterprises and Primetime Trucking and had managed Blockbuster Video on Apple Ave. for 13 years. She loved to write, bake and make ceramics. She also loved her internship at Head Start and the children loved her. She was four weeks away from graduating with an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Development. She is survived by her son, Tim (Kelly Cooper) Nilson; mother, Cheri White; sisters, Karen Willet and Julie (Terry) Thompson; brothers, Matthew (Amber) Willet and Brent (Nicole) Slayton; grandmother, Marion White; grandfather, Richard Slayton; nieces and nephews, Josh and Victoria Thompson, Ryan and Sofia Willet, Callie and Myla Slayton; many aunts, uncles, cousins and a wonderful group of friends. Diane was preceded in death by her fathers, Merle “Gene” Willet and Duane Slayton; grandparents, Howard and Mary Willet, Charles White, Sr. and AdaMay Slayton. SERVICES will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 16 at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231 726-5210 with Pastor Chip Hackney of Kainay Community Church will be officiating. Visitation will be 2-6 PM Sunday. Interment: Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in Diane’s name may be made to American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Calhoun County East, Team: Family Ties.
