Mrs. Dolores P. Brondyke's Obituary
Mrs. Dolores P. “Babe” Brondyke, age 88, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020, in Muskegon. She was born May 24, 1932 to Paul and Lucille (Bergquist) Buris in Ludington, and moved to Muskegon at a very young age. She graduated from Muskegon High School in 1950 and Hackley School of Nursing in 1953. She worked for Dr. Pettinga for many years and was also involved with Visiting Nurses Association. She was then selected as one of 6 nurses to be in the University of Michigan’s first Nurse Practitioner Course. She was a member of the professional organization MNA and VAPNAP. Dolores was very active in the community. She was a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served on several ministries and as Council President. She was selected as a “Woman of Accomplishment” in 2001 and later served on the committee when the Woman’s Club became the sponsor. She was a long time member of Zonta as well as The Greater Muskegon Woman’s Club. On March 27, 1953 she married Wayne Brondyke, and he preceded her in death on October 5, 2019. Survivors include 2 sons; Jay Brondyke, Joel (Carrie) Brondyke; 3 granddaughters, Shannon (Alex) Cater, Katie (Aaron) Eikenberry, Sarah (Chris) Cole; 5 great-grandchildren, Piper, Tegan and Ryder Eikenberry, Adrian and Ingrid Cole. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 4 sisters, Patricia Buris, Violet Stone, Beatrice Swanson, Virginia Farkas; and 1 brother, George Buris. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a private family service will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church 1206 Whitehall Road on Saturday Nov. 14th. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with service following. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Brondyke may be made to the Greater Muskegon Woman’s Club or First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
