Dolores A. Sytek's Obituary
Mrs. Dolores A. Sytek, age 83, passed away Monday morning, August 8, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born May 4, 1928 to Adam and Helena (Morgulec) Karpowicz in Muskegon, and was a life resident. Dolores graduated from Muskegon High School in 1946, and from Mercy Central School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1949. She owned and operated Eastwood Village Apartments with her husband since 1967, and worked until one month before her death. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, and also belonged to the St. Michael Rosary Altar Society. She had been active with the St. Michael Refugee Resettlement Committee, and was also involved with numerous philanthropic causes. Dolores loved traveling, especially to Catholic holy places throughout the world. She also enjoyed opera and classical music. Dolores met her husband Gerald F. Sytek at St. Michael Church where they both sang in the choir, and they were married on May 13, 1950. He preceded her in death in 2006. SURVIVORS include 1 son, G. Joseph Sytek of Muskegon; 2 daughters, Jane Sytek and husband Rick Davies of Lawrence, MI, Anne (Robert) Lemke of Holland; grandchildren, Lara (Paul) Oberlin, Benjamin and Adam Lemke, Katie Rudd; 1 brother, William (Genevieve) Karpowicz of Grand Rapids; 1 sister, Veronica Tretheway of Muskegon; numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father; 2 sons, Phillip and James Sytek; an infant son and infant daughter; 2 sisters, Regina Dobberstein and Helen Crehan. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, August 12, at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Brown presiding. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Thursday, with the Rosary prayed at 6:00 PM.
