Dominic A. DeMaio III's Obituary
Dominic A. DeMaio III “Double D”, age 54, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 22, 2019. He was born May 7, 1964 in New Haven, Connecticut to Alex and Joan (Steponavich) DeMaio. Dominic was a proud and decorated U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of Desert Storm. During his Sea Service, he was deployed on the U.S.S. Tripoli, and earned the Kuwait Liberation medal. Once a Marine, always a Marine. On July 17, 1999, he married the former Kirstin A. Homfeld on Mackinac Island. Dominic worked for the State of Michigan as a Corrections Officer from 1993 until his retirement in 2018. He was an avid outdoorsman, liked to fish, hunt, and spend time at the beach. He also enjoyed going on family vacations. But most of all, he loved his family. Watching his children’s sporting events and his son’s participation in theatre gave him great joy. He was so proud of all their accomplishments. Dominic is survived by his wife, Kirstin; 5 children: Gabrielle (Tyler Wright) DeMaio, Cody VanLente, Dominic DeMaio IV, Anthony DeMaio, Tiffany DeMaio; 3 grandchildren: Sage, Reed, and Silas; 2 brothers: Anthony (Cathy Fisher) DeMaio of Connecticut, Michael (Monica) Tarantino of Texas; sister, AnnMarie (Tony) Langello of Connecticut; his second mother, Ann Tarantino of Texas; mother-in-law, Darlene Homfeld; brothers-in-law: Bob (Michelle) Homfeld, Jr., Brian (Kelly) Homfeld; 2 nephews: Gabe Tarantino, Logan Homfeld; 2 nieces: Tara and Emma Homfeld. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Bob Homfeld, Sr. VISITATION with the family will be from 5-7 PM Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. A private family service will be held. Burial will take place in Laketon Twp. Cemetery. Memorials to the Muskegon Humane Society and Animal Rescue will be appreciated.
