Donald A. Collis' Obituary
Donald Alwin Collis, age 78, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. Donald was born in Muskegon on March 6, 1944, to his parents John and Clara Belle (Schurkamp) Collis. On August 10, 1963, he married the former Marilyn Gomez, and they spent 59 wonderful years together. Donald worked as a lab technician at Brunswick for 41 years, retiring in 2006. He also worked for some years as a real estate agent. Donald loved baseball, basketball, and Lions football. For many years he coached young boys’ and girls’ baseball teams. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, playing pool, hunting, fishing, golfing and camping, but more recently he enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, and spending time with his family. Donald will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marilyn; four children: Brenda Peterson, Donald (Cherrylee) Collis, Pamela Hunt, and Peggie Collis; eight grandchildren: Jacob Collis, Austin Collis, Joshua Collis, Miah Collis, Mickenzie Carey, Christopher Talley, Jeffrey Christiansen, and Derrick Christiansen; four great-grandchildren: Layla Christiansen, Harrison Christiansen, Charlotte Christiansen, Daley Christiansen, and one more on the way; six siblings: G.H. (Ruth) Collis, Linda (Jerry) Brightbill, Louise (William) VanHuss, John (Layne) Collis, Kathy (Bob) Hitt, and Jeanne (Jerry) Lorton; many nieces and nephews; and many friends that he had made over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his son in-law, Gregory Hunt. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be taking place for Donald at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI, 49441. VISITATION will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday night, as well as an hour prior to the service on Tuesday. A ROSARY will be taking place at 5:30 PM on Monday night prior to the visitation.
