Mr. Donald W. Demuth's Obituary
Donald Wayne Demuth, age 68, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016 in Grand Rapids. He was born May 12, 1948, to Edmund and Mary (Wigton) Demuth. He grew up in Minnesota, Canada, Wisconsin and Muskegon. While in school, he liked to play tennis and competed in doubles tournaments with his brother, Dennis. He first met Ellen Hendershot as a sophomore at Muskegon Heights High School, and then graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1966. After finishing high school and almost done with college, he married Ellen in the Fruitport Congregational Church on June 14, 1969. He finished his education at the Lawrence Institute of Technology in Southfield, MI with a Construction Engineering degree in 1970. He received high praise for his innovation in construction engineering from various trade magazines, and was integral in many large projects, including S. D. Warren Paper Mill in Muskegon. He loved camping, fishing, and visiting relatives. He especially loved the trip through the Black Hills. Don also liked to garden, ride his motorcycle, spend time with his nine grandkids and do woodworking, which he had more time for after retiring in 2010. He used his woodworking skills to make some treasured pieces such as cradles, doll houses, dressers. His raised garden beds are the envy of many. Another hobby Don really enjoyed was his flight simulator. Along with his wife, Ellen, he will be missed by his children, Jeff, Karen and Barb. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 3 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. 231 798-1100. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Humane Society, 1400 16th St. NW, Ste. 360, Washington, DC 20036. Visit Don’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com
